Tyson’s Battle

Strong and Getting Stronger…

Well, we are just over 6 weeks post-amputation and Tyson seems to be getting his strength. He spends the days outside with me laying around with his buddy, Gus (who is naturally lazy) while I do gardening and other spring clean-up work. We live on an acreage and the hills are very vast, but he manages them better and better every day. He seems to have figured out that he cant just run around like a maniac the way he used to…he gives himself breaks and rests and then we go for little walks around the property to get him stretched out and exercised. Occasionally he pushes it and I have to put him inside to enforce a break, but on the whole he is adapting well to his three-leggedness. Man, he is stubborn, determined and strong. Stronger and stronger every day.

For those of you who are struggling right now with the amputation question or amputation recovery: hang in there. It will get better. And you will be amazed at what your Tripawd can accomplish!!

Thanks for the encouraging report. We are just 2 days post amputation and just a few minutes ago I hurt my 8 lb. dog trying to pick her up to go out for a potty break.

The first couple of weeks were emotionally and physically draining. There are bound to be setbacks and tears….you are doing all you can for your little lady. Give it time. She’ll be up and at ‘em in no time. Hugs to you both!!

I was just wondering jow this sweet vboy was doing.

Oh Tyson, you and Gus are so sweet to help your Mom in her garden😙

Tyson seems to be doing a good job of self-regulating by knowing when his legs get fatigued and he needs to rest.

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

    Hi Tyson & Friends,

Just found your blog while searching info about MCT and amputation. I have 10 year old papillon with subcutaneus high grade mct (left thigh) diagnosis made 5 months ago. It was removed and we did chemo but while still on it, the mct came back this time next to the knee. Her leg was amputated 2,5 weeks ago. The recovery has been fast and she’s happy and living a normal life.

As ir was a high grade MCT the risk that mets appear or that there’ll be local recurrence in the amputation area is very high. I think we’ll do chemo again and hope and pray for the best.

I wish all the best for Tyson! Let’s keep on fighting!!!
